What is 8point8?
Throughout the two year Regional Pitchfest journey across regional Australia, we engaged with numerous local councils, small businesses, business chambers, startups, universities and co-working spaces.
Each group spoke of their experiences working in the regions and the challenges that arose were consistent - there is a lack of knowledge around innovation and entrepreneurial opportunities in regional communities, and a lack of well-placed funding.
We don't want to share these frustrations, we want to do something proactive to help the conversation.
While we currently have startup-focused conferences and government-focused conferences where the believers speak to the believers, there are no conferences that bring the two together.
What we need is an arena for the two sides to challenge approaches, and provide opportunity for collision for all players in the regional ecosystem.
Why the name?
8point8 is named for the 8.8 million people living in regional Australia.
What will 8point8 achieve?
Our 2018 theme is " The Future of Work in the Regions". We want 8point8, Regional Innovation and Small Business Conference to:
Create a national focus on the future of work in the regions
Create an opportunity for collision between support agencies and business
Accelerate regional discussion around the power of e-commerce
Showcase the Murray Riverina region as a leader in regional conferencing
Challenge the dialogue around regional Australia’s future
